Tailorable and Repeatable Normal Contact Stiffness via Micropatterned Interfaces

چکیده

Abstract An approach to producing interfaces with tailored and repeatable normal contact stiffness using micropatterned surfaces is developed. A finite element model first used design square wave having a range of stiffnesses, these are fabricated in polycarbonate via microfabrication process. Results demonstrate that the stiffnesses both tailorable repeatable. The can be broadened other materials useful for applications requiring specified interface stiffness. Finally, even deterministic interfaces, we show low levels roughness on surface features sufficient produce load-dependent at lower loads. Therefore, tailorability mostly applicable above this limit where total converges load-independent value. Graphic

Measurement and Modeling of Normal Contact Stiffness and Contact Damping at the Meso Scale

Modeling of contact interfaces that inherently include roughness such as joints, clamping devices, and robotic contacts, is very important in many engineering applications. Accurate modeling of such devices requires knowledge of contact parameters such as contact stiffness and contact damping, which are not readily available. In this paper, an experimental method based on contact resonance is d...

Evaluation of contact stiffness between solid-solid interfaces using dual-frequency ultrasound

Acoustical methods are playing an important role for nondestructive evaluation (NDE) of adhesive-bonded composites and components in industrial applications. A dual-frequency ultrasonic technique is proposed for the quantitative evaluation of contact strength between pressed solid surfaces. An ultrasonic excitation consists of two primary frequency components is applied perpendicular to the int...

Eccentricity effect of micropatterned surface on contact angle.

This article experimentally shows that the wetting property of a micropatterned surface is a function of the center-to-center offset distance between successive pillars in a column, referred to here as eccentricity. Studies were conducted on square micropatterns which were fabricated on a silicon wafer with pillar eccentricity ranging from 0 to 6 μm for two different pillar diameters and spacin...

Improving System Understanding via Interactive, Tailorable, Source Code Analysis

In situations in which developers are not familiar with a system or its documentation is inadequate, the system’s source code becomes the only reliable source of information. Unfortunately, source code has much more detail than is needed to understand the system, and it disperses or obscures high-level constructs that would ease the system’s understanding. Automated tools can aid system underst...

Repeatable light paths in the shearfree normal cosmological models

Conditions for the existence of repeatable light paths (RLPs) in the shearfree normal cosmological models are investigated. It is found that in the conformally nonflat models the only RLPs are radial null geodesics (in the spherical case) and their analogues in the plane and hyperbolically symmetric cases. In the conformally flat Stephani models, there exist special spherically, plane, and hype...
